Educators and Ed Tech Guru’s Dr. Kathy King and Mark Gura discuss what’s new in technology, as well as what is available for teachers to use in classrooms from K-12. They also share the “how to” use this technology, “where to” get more information and “what resources” are available to the schools, teachers and students. They also share companies, foundations, and links on the web that provide information and incentives for teachers and students incorporating current technology in their classrooms. Many of these ideas can be submitted for school or classroom prizes.

One such company discussed on podcast #33 was the Gates Foundation. They are looking to highlight “Teachers of Excellence”. They are not just looking for teachers who can get the scores of the state mandated tests, but teachers that show excellence in their everyday teaching strategies and lessons. Rewards and acknowledgments will be handed out to those teachers. I agree with Bill Gates and Dr. King when they say teachers want to be great, but they need better tools. One way to acquire those tools is to know what is available out there and what companies and foundations are willing to hand out and share.
Apple was another company named as wanting to reward teachers and students with technology to use in the classrooms.
Another area of discussion in Podcast #33 was the fact the the Smithsonian Museum has millions of artifacts that they will be digitizing and making available for use by the public. What a tremendous resource this will be to teachers that know how to acquire this information. Thanks To Dr. King and Mark Gura we are finding out not only what is available, but how to get our hands on these valuable materials.

This podcast gave me, an educator and master’s student, a great deal to think about and to incorporate into my everyday lessons and teaching strategies. I encourage you to sign in today, teacherspodcast.org, to hear what’s new in Education Technology and what you can put to use. Don’t forget to go back and review some of the older podcasts that have many usable ideas for you to glean from as well.
